Our 34th Wedding Anniversary & Our Daughter’s Wedding! Yep, on the same day!

34th wedding anniversary

A Wedding Anniversary and a Wedding!

In just a few days, Alexandra, our oldest child, will be a bride walking down the aisle, thirty-four years to the day that I did. Did I know three and a half decades ago that our daughter would be getting married on the same day as we were? No, of course not.

The Wedding Date

But when it came time to decide on a date for their fall wedding, the 20th of October fell on a Saturday and Alex and Brent thought it would be a lovely idea to get married on our anniversary. I think it is wonderful. It’s more than wonderful it makes me tear up just thinking about it.

I have written recently about how I was going to be the MOB (Mother of the Bride) and how I was off on this new adventure. I am a big fan of adventure and they come in all shapes and sizes. They all don’t have to be travel related they can be anything you may want to create and enjoy.

What makes a marriage successful?

Why does a marriage last thirty-four years? I have written my best tips for a happy marriage and I still believe in those. But if I had to boil it down to just two things, it would be to communicate effectively and to not be selfish. Being altruistic is the best way to show your partner how important they are.

The recommendation of good communication is rather obvious, but not everyone wants to do it. Many are so wrapped up in “winning” that they lose sight of the issue they are trying to solve. You will rarely see a couple who have lasted as long as we have where you see that the give and take is one-sided.

Marriage in the Empty Nest in the beginning can be a huge adjustment and the time when a couple really needs to work at it. I feel so fortunate that I found my perfect match, back in high school Spanish class, forty-one years ago. Sheesh that was a long time ago. But right now on this very day, in this time in our family history, I couldn’t be happier!

Our dear friends and family are gladly traveling to Seattle to celebrate the marriage of our daughter with her perfect match and fiancé, Brent. The rich fall colors, the delicious cakes, hand crafted cocktails, twinkle lights, smiles and tears (of joy) await us all on Saturday.

Thank you for your well wishes I really appreciate them. Everyone loves a good love story, don’t they?

The Wedding Adventure Begins.
