Let’s talk about podcasts! Are you listening?

talk about podcasts

Hey Everyone! I have just arrived home from Japan and hopefully you have been following along on my Instagram and Facebook pages. The trip was more amazing than I ever thought possible. Each day was filled with history, beauty and delicious food. I will try to organize it all a bit and get it ready to share it with you. Look for my posts sometime next week!

Let’s Talk About Podcasts ~

I guess I am a little behind. Evidently I missed the memo about podcasts. My good friend Mark has been quite enthusiastic about this communication source and always willing to talk about podcasts. I listened, he shared and I did follow his suggestions…eventually. I thought, “How do I fit this in? Do I sit and just listen? How does this work? I can’t possibly just sit, I don’t commute anywhere so I can’t listen in the car.”

Mark asked me to be a guest on his podcast to talk about social media and I loved the experience. You can listen over on the right side of this page. My friend Keri then told me about this one =>What Should I Read Next and how much she enjoyed it. I am such a book geek that I listened and now I can’t wait for each new one that comes out.

I think I get it now and I have figured out what works for me about podcasts.

First of all let me say that since I started talking with other people about podcasts I now understand what all the fuss is about. For me it is straight talk, informative, captivating and honest. Our daughter Alex listens to several different podcasts when she rides the bus to work. Other friends listen to their favorites at the beach, while on vacation or even while they work. Why not listen at the gym?

Guess where I listen?

I listened on a plane recently to a podcast provided by American Airlines. Did you know that they have them on the audio channels? I didn’t. I listened to an interview with movie maker Quentin Tarantino and it was so fascinating and captivating. He talked about his film career and philosophies, he wasn’t too political and I learned so much!

In addition to downloading them and listening while I fly (Seriously, I just figured this out?). I put in my earbuds when I walk Rocco, which is every day for an hour! Hello? How easy it that?

My primary reason for wanting to talk with you about podcasts is simple. I wanted to know what you were listening to. Have you discovered podcasts? There are so many choices that I don’t even know where to begin. Here are the four that have been suggested to me and I really enjoy.

  • What Should I Read Next
  • Bliss and Grit
  • Goal Digger
  • Launch

Please leave your list in the comments. I would love to know your opinions and whether you are listening!

  2. I love podcasts, but I like using them to learn. I don’t really like the podcasts that are just random conversations. I like them to be focused on communicating the research done by the host.

I listen to all podcasts using Spotify. I think it is just a great service!

    My favorite podcasts are:

    Stuff You Should Know
    Planet Money
    Crime Junkie
    99% Invisible
    The Yaro Podcast

    Also a few limited series:

The End of the World with Josh Clark
The Message by GE Podcast Theater/Panoply
    It Could Happen Here

I listen to podcasts during all of those dull moments of life that are filled with waiting. I listen while I eat meals if I am eating alone. I listen while I cook. I listen on drives to the grocery store. I tried listening while I exercised, but I need motivational music while exercising. I’m not in the frame of mind to focus and learn then.

I’m glad you are starting a conversation about podcasts!

    Thanks,

    Wayne Walls
